Over the month of July I participated in the #SGfashionfix by Sartorial Geek. The challenge was to create closet cosplays based on several themes they had each week.
The first weeks theme was #NerdProm or characters who were in school. I created three characters, a Hufflepuff, Gwen Stacy, and Luna Lovegood. I will always love my Hufflepuff pictures, and these casual Hufflepuff pictures were perfect! I already had a casual Hufflepuff on my cosplan list for this summer, so this challenge really motivated me to get it done. While I like my Gwen picture, it really was not my favorite picture. In fact, it was my least favorite picture I did of the month. It still looked okay and counted as an entry! Lastly, I created my Luna! I LOVED my Luna, I thought it turned out so great! The glasses were perfect and gave off such a Luna vibe. Several of my Luna pictures have my hood over the shoulder which was a big oopsie on my part.
The second week's theme was #MagicalMenagerie or magical animals. I went with a Niffler, Winnie the Pooh and Lady from Lady and the Tramp. I love my Niffler, it was probably my most creative of my entries. Just a basic black top and shorts along with all of my boyfriends shiny stuff. I had like five watches in this picture, six rings, a keychain, a tie clip, and my glasses! Pooh was rather simple with just a red top and some buns for his ears! I used Lady as an excuse to take pictures with my dog because he's cute.
Week Three was #MysteryBoxWeek and I did Captain America, Claire from Outlander and Captain Marvel! This week fell during a week I was working a camp, so I took all these pictures prior to leaving for the camp. I knew that this would be the only week I could do Captain America! I jumped at my chance since I had my brand new shield! The cap outfit is something I wear a lot, so it was one of the best representations of me! Claire was actually a costest I did months ago, but never posted to my account. I found this cape at a goodwill and had to have it, and it was perfect for Claire! Captain Marvel was another easy cosplay I could put on and quickly take pictures in. I don't actually own a lot of actual geek wear, so this was the week with the most of the geek wear I own.
The fourth week was #ComplexFemaleCharacters and I chose to do Sarah Manning from Orphan Black, Amy Pond from Doctor Who, and Dolores Abernathy from Westworld. Sarah was probably the one that surprised me the most, it performed way better than I expected, seeing as it wasn't a mainstream show. My resemblance to the actress in character definitely helped. Sarah's top is currently the only screen accurate item I own and I bought it when I was around 14 or 15. The smallest size didn't even fit me (and only just barely does now), and I ended up having to take the straps in so it would fit better. Amy was a cosplan I've had for sometime. I've even had the whole costume put together since about February but never was motivated to do pictures for her. I purchased most of the pieces of the actual outfit because they looked like the clothes she wears in her and Rory's final episode. The jacket and top were purchased at Target at separate times over the course of a few years. Lastly, we have Dolores, I did this one right after getting my hair done. I came home from the salon and went 'OH My hair is now so close to Dolores's hair color, I need to do pictures while it still looks good from the salon!' Another cosplan Ive had entirely done since April, yet no actual motivation to take pictures of. This entry is another on of my favorites from this challenge. My boyfriend pulled out his grandpas old revolver that looked pretty close to the shows match and I took it in the backyard and took some pictures. Just to note here: I understand how to handle guns, the gun was not loaded, yet as you always should, I handled the gun as if it was loaded. My finger was never on the trigger and I was very careful. I did not use it for more than probably five minutes. It turned out some really great pictures though, I'm in the market for a toy and/or 3D printed one I will be able to take to cons.
The final week of of the challenge was #getlit(erary) or Literary characters! I chose Annabeth Chase, Daenerys, Percy Jackson, Gwen Stacy, Ginny Weasley, Eleven, and a Hufflepuff quidditch player! Annabeth was another character I was excited to do now that my hair was blonde! I had a bunch of really cool pictures from this shoot which was awesome! Next I did Daenerys, a shot I've actually had since Week One but knew I didn't want to use until this week. I took it before unbraiding my wig for Luna. Next, was my most popular of the week, and second most popular of the month, Percy Jackson. This was another one I had been wanting to do for awhile. I cut my first wig for this cosplay and then never really got around to doing it! I also learned I don't know how to smirk through these pics, because WOW that was bad.Next was just an excuse to post a good picture of my hair, but I also felt kind like Gwen, but with glasses. By this point I figured out I had not hit my limit for the challenge (20 pictures for the month) and started posting more. I Posted a Ginny picture, a cosplay I really want to flesh out with quidditch robes. Then I posted an Eleven picture, this was a bit of a stretch for the weeks theme, but Stranger Things does have a comic book series and therefor counted for the week. Lastly, I did a Hufflepuff Quidditch Player!
I did not reach my challenge limit of 20 outfits (somewhere in my counting I miscounted and thought I had hit 20). But It was so much fun and also provided me with so much new content for my instagram page! I really enjoyed this, and cannot wait for the next one! Check out all my entries below!
